The "Mignon" fig.
Today I developed a new respect for small size figs.
This, not well known, variety from El-Paso street that owners are calling "Mignon" are originally from Spain. This mother tree is about 45 years old, and yet, is very small and twiggy with abundant crop every year.
It's Bronze colored fruit are very sweet with a thick consistency to the pulp.
Skin of the fruit is also very thin and sweet.
The figs have a very pleasant floral aroma with underlying figgie flavor.
Because of their small size, the fruit ripen very fast and if they are kept longer on the tree they start dehydrating and become dry figs, ready to store for winter.
The leaves have mainly 5 elongated fingerlike lobes with somehow rounder tips and have a very soft feel to them. The back of the leaves have a velvety feel to them which I found very unusual.
Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the flavor and taste.
